Text Eureka: Protest, riot, rebellion or revolution?

TLF ID A002882

This unit of work consists of four activities that examine the causes and consequences of the 1854 Eureka Rebellion. The activities include a decision-making exercise through which students consider the rebellion from the point of view of the diggers and the realities of life on the goldfields. A short video provides background to the uprising and explains the outcomes of the event. Using primary sources students apply this knowledge and consider the artefacts from different perspectives, before a final reflective activity asks students to consider the relevance and legacy of Eureka in modern Australia.
